Our house is full of reward and discipline charts, time-out chairs you name it. Every time something doesn't work I try something else. It is crazy right now in the house because they are still all pretty young, so they like to tag team on mom and dad.<br /><br />I would scour the internet looking for new ideas and tricks on <a href="http://childbehaviorproblems.info/"><span style="font-weight: bold;">child behavior problems</span></a>. With everything we tried, one thing remained constant and that is CONSISTENCY. Without that, no plan you put in place will last very long.<br /><br />So when I came across this great tool, I was excited. It took all of the "bad cop" drama off my shoulders and made the kids responsible for their own actions. It was great! Way back when, they would put you to work on the farm or spank your behind with a belt or stick. Who knows if that really worked. 99% of spanking is done out of ANGER and losing your TEMPER! The kids ticked you off and got your blood boiling so now they are going to get it. You may have felt better (which I bet you didn't) but that didn't help your child. What did they learn? <br /><br />Sorry to say, but if kids aren't taught WHY what they did was wrong, they are going to do it again. It's pre wired in their brain! It's got to be. In order to stop child behavior problems, you need to give them consequences that fit the crime. <br /><br />Spanking really doesn't make sense to me (I was spanked plenty in my day)but if it's used to warn the kids for example that running out into the road is sassy and dangerous, then maybe.<br /><br />I'd show them pictures of traffic accidents first personally or take them to hospital or local cerebral palsy center, where there might be a young child there that was hit by a car. Do I want them to be scared? Hell yes! I want them to be so scared that they will never run into the road again. Just my opinion! <br /><br />Have we ever spanked our kids? Sure, but it didn't work! We've used time-outs, reward charts, naughty chair, discipline charts, special treats and they all work until the kids get bored with them. I've got a great tool that I stumbled upon that has worked great! I actually use this <a href="http://childbehaviorproblems.info"><span style="font-weight: bold;">childbehaviorproblems.info</span></a> and the 1-2-3 Magic book. My husband said they weren't going to work but guess what? I love it when I'm right. The key to these is for the parents to follow through. Now that's the hardest part, because that means you actually have to do something. You can't be lazy!
